Hybridizes with all centromeric regions but Y; 64% hybridization signal at centromeres; 43% total label on D and G group chromosomes; no hybridization detected at telomeres. Sequence of pE1 differs from that in pF5 by 15 nucleotides; hybridizes with DNA from chimpanzee, gorilla, weakly with orangutan, not with gibbon, Old or New World monkeys. Hybridizes to certain fragments in HinfI and HindIII digested DNA; but little or no repeat sequence homology seen with EcoRI, KpnI, or PstI-digested DNA; XbaI repeat composed of 4 tandem repeats of 171, 170, 171, 170 bp. |
